Steamed Cabbage Wraps | Super healthy, low-carb, no oil. So good to taste and so easy to make.

Being a foodie It's really difficult for me to choose simple healthy food over oh! so yummy and spicy. But no matter how much you like fried and too spicy foods it's good for your health to have some nutritious food which are healthy in all aspects. Now healthy foods are not always boring (trust me). Actually they are really awesome if you know what to cook & how to cook. Confused? Don't be. My today's recipe is one of my favourite healthy recipe, which is so yummy you would love to make it again & again. It has lots of veggies, no sugar, no refined flour, no oil, steamed.... need more reason to categories it as healthy? So lets cook it.


For making these cabbage wraps you need cabbage of course. Other things you will need are carrots, beans, spring onions, onions, garlic, ginger, green chilli, minced chicken (if you are a vegetarian substitute chicken with grated paneer, tofu or soya kima), vinegar, soy sauce, salt, black paper, coriander leaves & steams. you can also add veggies of your choice like mushroom or capsicum etc.There is no specific rule actually. you can add veggies of your choice. I love mushroom in this wrap but I didn't have any so not using this time.

To make the wraps first remove the core of the cabbage and separate the leaves one by one

Once all the leaves are separated blanch the cabbage leaves. In a big pot boil some water with salt. Now add the leaves, cover with a lid and let it rest for 2 to 3 minutes or till the cabbage leaves begin to wilt.

Once the leaves reach that stage immediately transfer the leaves into ice cold water. It will stop the cooking process.

Once cold remove the leaves from water and place on a strainer to drain all the water. Or just pat them dry carefully.

In a bowl mix all the ingredients, cover with a cling wrap and keep it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Prepare cabbage leaves to make wraps. With help of a sharp knife remove the thick center rib of each leaf so it will be easy to roll and wraps will hold the shape.

After the marination time is over take out the chicken mixture from the refrigerator and start filing the cabbage leaves for making wrap. Here are the steps how to roll it.

Once all your wraps are ready grease the steamer with little oil and place the wraps in it. steam for 10 to 12 minutes.

Your Steamed cabbage wrap is ready. That's so simple isn't it?

Steamed Cabbage Wrap

Prep time: 1 hour 20 minutes

Cooking time: 10 to 12 mins

Total time: 1 hour 30 minutes

Yields: 15 pieces

Cuisine: Chinese

Ingredients:

  • Cabbage (big size) - 15 leaves

  • Chicken Minced - 400 gm

  • Carrot - 1/2 cup grated

  • Beans - 1/4 cup finely chopped

  • Onion - 1/2 Cup finely chopped

  • Ginger - 1 tsp finely chopped or grated

  • Garlic - 1 tbsp finely chopped

  • Green chilli - 1 tsp or as per tolerance

  • Spring onion greens - 1/4 cup

  • Coriander leaves & stems - 2 tbsp finely chopped

  • Salt - To taste

  • Black paper - 1 tsp

  • Soy sauce - 1tbsp

  • Vinegar - 1 tbsp

Preparation:


  • Remove the core of cabbage and carefully separate the leaves without breaking them.

  • In a big pan boil some water with salt place the leaves in it and keep covered for 2 to 3 mins or until the leaves become little wilted.

  • immediately put the leaves in ice water. once cold drain the water completely or pat dry them and keep aside.

  • In a mixing bowl add all the ingredients except cabbage leaves, mix well. Cover with cling wrap and keep in the refrigerator for 1 hour (or minimum 30 mins if you are in a hurry).

  • To wrap the leaves easily with a sharp knife cut the hard center rib of each leaf.

  • After 1 hour take the stuffing out of the fridge and start making wraps.

  • Put some stuffing on a cabbage leaf (near stem end) fold over the filling. Then make fold from both the sides to middle and roll it like a wrap.

  • Once all your wraps are ready, grease the steamer with some oil and place the wraps in it.

  • Steam for 10 to 12 minutes or till the cabbage leaves are cooked properly.

  • Once done take out the wraps from steamer and serve hot with some hot sauce of your choice.


Taaa da... your super healthy steamed cabbage wrap is ready to serve. Enjoy with some hot sauce of your choice.

Note:

  • Use cabbages which has loosely packed leaves, it will be easy to separate the leaves.

  • Don't use the upper hard leaves and very small size leaves.

  • For veg wrap substitute chicken with grated paneer or tofu.

  • you can use other veggies too like mushroom, red,yellow, green bell paper etc

  • While adding salt in the stuffing keep in mind there's salt in soy sauce and blanched cabbage leaves too.

  • Coriander leaves & stems are totally optional. If you don't like you can omit it.

  • I have served the wraps with 1/4 cup of szechuan sauce mixed with 1tbsp Soy sauce. you can serve with any sauce of your choice.
